Marius Bauer Biography
(b The Hague, 25 Jan 1867; d Amsterdam, 18 July 1932). Printmaker and painter, brother of (1) W. C. Bauer. In 1879 he went to the Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, where in 1884 he was awarded the silver medal for life drawing. In 1888 The Hague dealer Elbert J. van Wisselingh helped him to travel to Constantinoplethe first of many journeys Bauer was to undertake to the Middle East (Palestine, Egypt), Indo-China and the Indian subcontinent, Spain, Venice, Morocco and Algiers. In 1902 he married an Amsterdam artist, Johanna Stumpff, and they settled in Aerdenhout.
