Theophile de Bock Biography
(b the hague, 14 jan 1851; d haarlem, 22 nov 1904). dutch painter and printmaker. he began his career as a clerk for the dutch railway company, but he was dismissed for devoting too much time to his hobbies of painting and drawing. he trained with j. w. van borselen (182592) and later with jan hendrik weissenbruch and jacob maris. he worked first in bergen op zoom, then delft, the hague, barbizon (187880; 1904) and paris (188083), again in the hague, then renkum and finally in haarlem, where he remained until his death.
