Alfred "de" Bréanski Biography
(b London, England, 1852; d London, England, 1928) English painter. Coming from a family of artists, de Breanski was a successful landscape painter. His subject matter focuses on Welsh and Scottish scenes depicting highlands, mountains, water, sheep, cattle and an occasional lone figure; his works also often feature light and texture in great detail. De Breanski also painted less well-known landscapes of the Thames River. From 1869 to 1893 de Breanski exhibited his paintings at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists. In 1881 he, along with other artists, formed the Royal Cambrian Academy to assist the promotion and exhibition of their works in Wales. De Breanski also exhibited his pieces at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy until 1918. His son, Alfred Jr., became a well-known painter as well.
