Mikhail Cheremnykh Biography
(b Tomsk, 31 Oct 1890; d Moscow, 7 Aug 1962). Russian caricaturist, illustrator, poster and stage designer. He was born into a noble family. After his second year at the medical faculty in Tomsk, he moved to Moscow, where from 1911 to 1917 he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Konstantin Korovin (18611939), Sergey Malyutin (18591937) and Nikolay Kasatkin (18591930). His diploma work was the oil painting Beggars (191617). Later on Cheremnykh did little painting, working mainly on caricatures and posters.
