George Clare Biography
(b Barnet, Hertfordshire, 1835; d Barnet, 1890) British Painter. Clare was a still life painter of fruits and flowers. He exhibited at the British Institution, the Royal Society of British Artists, and also the Royal Academy in 1864, 1866 and 1867. Many in his family were artists, including his sons Oliver and Vincent Clare, working in a style similar to his own. He is thought to have been influenced by and imitated watercolorist William Henry Hunt.
