Estimated Price: $2,720 - $3,400

Description: Gelatin silver printUSA, 1960Bruce Davidson (b. 1933) - American photographer'Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller and Yves Montand, Beverly Hills Hotel'With photographer's Magnum ink stamp and various notations in unknown hand versoDimensions: 8 x 11 7/8 in. (20.3 x 30.2 cm.)Overall dimensions: 16 x 20 in. (40.6 x 50.8 cm.)Good condition Taken during the filming of "Let's Make Love" (1960), this photograph shows a candid Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller and Yves Montand at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Monroe can be seen in a slinky black dress eating with her hands - yet ever aware of the camera - while Miller and Montand congregate around the table. During the filming of this movie, the affair between Monroe and Montand complicated matters as Monroe was married to Miller and Montand to actress Simone Signoret. Executed in 1960, this gelatin silver print has the photographer's Magnum stamp and notation in an unknown hand, verso. The work measures 8 x 11 7/8 inches. Each corner very slightly bent and with chipping to emulsion. Very slightly yellowed. Otherwise good condition. Bruce Davidson (American, b. 1933)Born in Illinois, Bruce Davidson began taking photographs at the age of ten. After university, he was drafted into the army and stationed near Paris. When he left military service, Davidson worked as a freelance photographer for LIFE magazine and, in 1958, became a full member of Magnum. In 1962, he received a Guggenheim fellowship, creating a documentation of the civil rights movement in America. His first solo exhibition was the following year at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1967, Davidson received his first grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The resulting work - "East 100th Street" was published by Harvard University in 1970, and was the subject of an exhibition that same year at MoMA.
