was
a
major
contributor
to
the
theory
and
practice
of
SURREALISM.

work
challenged

disrupted

repressive
aspects
of
European
culture,
in
particular
Christian
doctrine,
conventional
morality
and
the
aesthetic
codes
of
Western
academic
art.
