Biography: Friedman
(b St. Louis, Missouri, 1965) American conceptual artist and sculptor. Tom Friedman received a BFA in graphic illustration from Washington University in 1988, and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990. Friedman's artistic career has spawned from his prolific thinking and meticulous nature. His work borders the obsessive through its transformation of banal material into intricate magnifications of his complex thoughts. Friedman approaches material without prejudice and without reservation, his artistic sensitivity performs a pseudo-reincarnation of the material into a higher form yet remains sensitive to its origin. One is always acutely aware of the material and the transformative process that brought us to view it and consider it as art.
