Jonathan Green at Auction Now

  • HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961).  Across the River and Into the Trees. London: Jonathan Cape, 1950. 8vo. Half title. Original green cloth decorated in red, the spine with red cloth label and silver lettering, dust-jacket designed by Hans Tisdall (jacket with a few chips). Provenance: THOMAS BLOFELD (armorial bookplate). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION IN BOOK FORM. This English edition preceded the first American printing. Before either, the novel was serialised in Cosmopolitan magazine. With the same author’s For Whom the Bell Tolls (London, 1941, original cloth, dust-jacket, bookplate signed, the first name indistinct, by [?]Harry Purdy, possibly a relation of Leonard “Bud” Purdy, close friend of the author). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION). Register to bid
