Description: PROVENANCE: The artist, from whom acquired by Dingley, 6th October 1880 for £2 Exhibited: Birmingham, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Walter Langley Memorial Exhibition, 1923 Literature: R.Langley, Walter Langley: Pioneer of the Newlyn Art Colony, Bristol, 1997, p.154 The style of the signature was used by the artist for a very short time and dates the work to Langley's first visit to Cornwall in 1880. There is a pencil sketch of the same scene, without people, in an early pocket-book inscribed `Lamorna Cove'. We are grateful to Roger Langley for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
