Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: "Untitled (Santa Fe Landscape)", An abstracted green, purple and blue landscape seems to billow and distort in the wind. In 1938, Boston-area artist and writer Alfred Morang (1901-1958) moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and joined Emil Bisttram, William Lumpkins and other artists in founding the Transcendental Painting Group. The collective was influenced by Wassily Kandinsky and other abstract expressionists, and sought to tap into a deep spirituality through non-objective painting. Working from his Canyon Road studio, Morang created a distinctive abstract vocabulary of tangled forms and starkly contrasting colors.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Alfred Morang (1901-1958) 14"x20" o/b Landscape Alfred Morang grew up in Maine, learning to paint from the various artists who summered near his home. His formal education in the arts consisted of a MFA from Fremond University, where Alfred Morang studied in Caroll Tyson and Henry Snell. Alfred Morang's early career was marked by an artistic restlessness that drove him to create in many media, not all of them visual. While living in Boston in the 1920s, Alfred Morang studied art and music, illustrated books and magazines, gave music lessons, and began work on a number of works of fiction, some of which would be published in the 1930s. His development as an artist continued until his tragic death in 1958 in a fire that burned down his Canyon Road studio.
