NOTES Anna Petrovna Ostroumova-Lebedeva (1871-1955) worked with engraving techniques, lithography and watercolors. She created many landscapes and some portraits in watercolor and completed a large and magnificent series of views of St. Petersburg. She also began woodcutting work in 1898. She studied at the Stieglitz School of Technical Drawing (1889-92) then at the St. Petersburg Academy under I. Repin, V. Math‚ and P. Tchistiakov. During that time she took leave to work in Paris at Karmen Rossi and James Whistler's studio and in 1906 she studied at E. Zvantzeva's school under Leon Bakst. Ostroumova-Lebedeva was also one of the founding members of the 'World of Art' group.

A group of 18 postcards, most issued to benefit the St, Evgenya Red Cross Society and lithographed in color by either N. Kudushina or Golike and Wilborg, St. Petersburg. Each 90 x 140 mm. Condition: all but two remain used; some wear and soiling. Included is one postcard of a child in a garden. A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva studied in Russia with Ilya Repin and worked in the studio of James McNeill Whistler in Paris. It was while learning watercolor technique with Leon Bakst that she became a member of the Mir Iskusstva [World of Art] group. She never worked in oil due to an allergy, but she became a gifted printmaker and is best remembered for her panoramic studies of St. Petersburg. (18). (18)
