Jack Pierson Biography

(b Plymouth, Massachusetts 1960) American artist. Jack Pierson received his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1984. Living and working in California and New York today, Pierson began exhibiting in 1990 in New York. Today he exhibits internationally, most recently with solo exhibitions in Milan, Italy and Malaga, Spain in 2009. He works in a wide range of media including photography, painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture. Pierson has also photographed many well-known celebrities. He is known for his sculptures and installations involving text, which often recall the neon signs used to advertise goods or services on storefronts. These works usually involve one or two words and are often shocking or unexpected.
