Xul Solar Biography
(b San Fernando, 14 Dec 1888; d 10 May 1963). Argentine painter. He was self-taught and spent many years of his youth visiting Europe, holding his first exhibition in Milan in 1920. He returned in 1924 to Buenos Aires where, like Emilio Pettoruti and other artists who had also familiarized themselves with new trends in Europe, he became part of the first wave of the avant-garde in Argentina. Undeterred by the hostile reactions aroused by his first exhibitions, he remained resolved to pursue an unconventional approach throughout his life.
