Zofia Stryjenska Biography
(b Kraków, 1894; d Geneva, 1976). Polish painter, illustrator and designer. In 190911 she studied at the Fine Arts School for Women in Kraków under Jan Bukowski (b 1873) and in 191112 at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich in the studios of Gabriel von Hackl (b 1843) and Hugo von Habermann, for which she posed as a man and called herself Tadeusz Grzymala. From 1912 she took part in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, including the Venice Biennale of 1920. After World War II she settled in Switzerland.
