Edward Weston Biography
(b Highland Park, IL, 24 March 1886; d Carmel, CA, 1 Jan 1958). American photographer. He was the quintessential 20th-century American photographer, enduring a lifetime of financial insecurity and emotional anxiety for the singular pursuit of his craft and aesthetic ideals. His intricately detailed journals, which he called his daybooks and which date from 1923 to 1943, convey an intimate sense of his creative life.
