Lot 2: Black-Bellied Plover Pair

Two rocker-style shorebirds. Wakeman inventory "SB-17-W" and "SB-18-W" in pen on underside.

 

Lot 3: Black-Bellied Plover Pair

A very early and folky pair of chip-carved shorebird decoys with applied heads. The right bird's head is slightly turned. These birds closely resemble, and may be, the early work of Long Island carver, John Henry Birch. Wakeman inventory "SB-6-W" and [...more]

 

Lot 4: Two Feeding Willet

Both shorebirds are thick flatties with two stick holes to be used as either runners or feeders. Wakeman inventory "SB-11-W" and "SB-12-W" in pen on underside.

 

Lot 5: Feeding Yellowlegs

The split-tail, spokeshave carving, and reversed "pounce" feather treatment on this shorebird closely link it to the very earliest work of Joseph Lincoln. Wakeman inventory "SB-10-W" in pen on underside.
