The May auction is the 20th in Gray's Auctioneers series of auctions which feature a wide selection of lots - pretty much something for everyone. The auction has 414 lots of paintings, sculptures, antiques, rare books, porcelain & ceramics, silver, antiquities, glass, jewelry, rugs, cameras & typewriters, lamps, chandeliers, clocks and watches. Painting highlights up for auction include a single owner collection of 6 paintings by David Burliuk (Russian, 1820-1967), the "Father of Russian Futurism". When he moved to America he started painting in the neo-primitivist style, for which he became known. We also include a rare oil on canvas, Nativity Scene by rococo era artist Giovanni Battista Pittoni (Italian 1687 -1767) from the collection of renowned 20th century collector Gustav Nebehay. Other artwork includes Edward Potthast (American, 1857 - 1927) Sunlight & Shadow, Central Park, crayon on board and Childe Hassam (American, 1859 - 1935) The Breakfast Room, etching. Unusual items include a 19th Century Venetian Carved Fruitwood Savonarola Chair in the Style of Luigi Frullini, a unique 19th century French Rococo Style Carved Giltwood Marquise in the manner of Juste Aurele Meissonnier, a 20th Century South American Jeweled and Carved, Wood and Metal Carousel Horse, a bronze bust by Auguste Rodin (French, 1840-1917), and a large Stoneware Jar with Handle by ceramicist Claude Conover (American, 1907-1993). Exhibition takes place at our auction showrooms at 10717 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, Ohio starting Thursday, April 30 at noon - 8pm; Friday, May 1 at noon - 5pm; Saturday, May 2 11:30am - 1pm.
