It enabled the expansion of the first Jewish cities and settlements in Palestine. The bank controlled the currency system and became the function of a central bank when the State Israel was founded. The headquarters were still in London at that time. This was the reason for the foundation of a bank with an Israeli name: Bank Leumi. When the Bank of Israel was founded in 1954, the Bank Leumi was transformed to a pure business bank.
