  • Bodnar's Auction Sales

Deciding which professional to use to liquidate your estate or collection can be difficult. We feel we can make your decision easier by providing you with some information about us.

Our regular auctions are held in Somerset, NJ on the second Thursday of every month. We auction 1800 to 2400 lots every sale which consists of quality antiques and collectibles including furniture, glassware, toys, dolls, trains, jewelry, artwork, Hummels, Lladros, Royal Doulton, pottery, bronzes, lighting, rugs, dinnerware, primitives, & reproductions. Our merchandise is made up of single item consignments to full estates. We advertise monthly in a variety of National and International trade publications. Our direct mail list, also a part of our advertising strategy, comes from a database of 1,800 current customers. Our web page also receives over 3000 hits a sale. Attendance at each sale ranges between 200-300 people from all over the United States. In addition to our monthly auctions, we have provided on-site auction services as well as auctioning at benefits and organizing tag sales throughout the tri-state area.

Owner and chief auctioneer Joe Bodnar is currently a member of the New Jersey State Society of Auctioneers, a member of the National Auctioneers Association, and a member of the Train Collector's Association. Mr. Bodnar has his designation as a General Personal Property Appraiser (GPPA). He completed the required courses and received this designation in 2004. He was voted the 1999 Bid Calling Champion by the NJSSA, received the 1999-2000 Best Advertising Award and received the Thomas Barton Post Historic Preservation Award for donating his services at the last 13 Annual Metlar-Bodine House Benefit Auctions.

The auction process is conducted in two parts. First we would make an appointment to come out to the home and do a walk though. At this time we would give you estimates on key pieces and determine a commission rate for the Estate/collection. We would then set another date for pick up of the items.

In addition to commission rates, there are many factors to consider when choosing an auction house. We feel that reputation, experience, and professionalism are also included in the services we provide for our customers which sets us apart from other auctions.
