  • Bonhams & Goodman incorporating Bonhams & Bruce and Dalia Stanley is the largest Australian owned, internationally operated general fine art auction house, conducting a wide variety of auctions. Last year the Bonhams & Goodman group had the second highest turnover of all the Australian general fine art auction houses with sales of over AUD$27Million including buyer's premium.

    The company employs 20 full time specialists and consultants covering Australian and international art, fine Aboriginal paintings and artifacts, fine jewellery, collectors cars, sport and entertainment collectables and decorative arts and objects. Bonhams & Goodman provides internationally trained specialists covering more categories than any of its rivals in Australia.

    Goodmans Auctioneers joined the Bonhams group of companies in September 2003. The Chief Executive Officer Tim D. Goodman has been a prominent member of the Fine Art Auction industry in Australia and New Zealand since 1971.The Company's central office and prime auction rooms are located in the converted 1920s telephone exchange at Double Bay in the heart of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

    In June 2005 Bonhams & Goodman completed its merger with Theodore Bruce of Adelaide, Australia's oldest auction house founded in 1878.

    In October 2005 Bonhams & Goodman announced its acquisition of Stanley & Co one of Sydney's most prominent boutique auction businesses. The proprietor, Dalia Stanley joined Bonhams & Goodman as a Senior Specialist in November 2005.

    In March 2007 the Company launched its new Melbourne state of the art sale rooms at 540 Malvern Road, Hawksburn Village. The former Senior Curator of Australian Art at the National Gallery of Victoria, Geoffrey Smith has been appointed as National Head of Art based in Melbourne.

    In May 2008 Bonhams & Goodman announced its acquisition of Leonard Joel, one of the last of the old Australian auction houses remaining in private family ownership.

    Bonhams, founded in 1793, is one of the world's oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques. The present company was formed by the merger in November 2001 of Bonhams & Brooks and Phillips Son and Neale UK. In August 2002, the company acquired Butterfields, the principal firm of auctioneers on the West Coast of America and in August 2003, Goodmans, a leading Australian fine art and antiques auctioneer with salerooms in Sydney, joined the Bonhams Group of Companies. Today, Bonhams is the third largest and fastest growing auction house in the world with a global network of offices and regional representatives providing sales advice and valuation services in 20 countries. It offers more sales than any of its rivals, through two major salerooms in London: New Bond Street, and Knightsbridge, and a further 10 throughout the UK.
