Our History Lots Road Auctions is a far cry from its small and humble beginnings. The earliest venture was set up in 1974, when two former Christie's employees began trading everything from junk to antiques. At the time, Roger Ross, joint founder of the now famous 'Furniture Cave' on the King's Road, Chelsea, became a shareholder. During Christmas 1977, a huge fire destroyed half the roof, and the Auctioneers went out of business in the summer of 1978. Undeterred, Roger Ross held his first auction in January 1979 and continued with one sale a month with just one full-time employee, Henry, his baby-sitter! Long-standing clients remember that until the premises were repaired after the fire, sales were held in the open air with umbrellas raised.Today it is all quite different. Since July 2001, the weekly sales have moved from Mondays to Sundays. On average, between 500-600 lots are offered each week in the recently refurbished 12,000 square foot showroom. Every Sunday, from 1pm there is a Contemporary auction followed at 4pm by the Antiques Auction, offering a selection of furniture, pictures, rugs, needleworks and decorative items. There are a selection of specialist auctions held on a regular basis. Once a month there is a Fine Antique and Continental furniture auction, which also includes a very high quality selection of Fine Art. Silver, Vertu and Jewellery is offered once every three months, as is a separate, long standing auction of Russian Art. Also offering an unusual selection of Tribal Art and Artefacts every three months. Lots Road Auctions is not only the preserve of trade and private collectors, but also an essential source for interior designers, who find an ideal combination of price and variety. There is a bargain to be found for everyone, as it offers its valued customers a friendly and approachable environment in which to do business.
