Based in Fairfield, Maine, Poulin Antiques & Auctions buys and sells antiques and collectibles and holds auctions for estates, firearms and other specialty collections. Founded in 1980, Poulin Antiques & Auctions is owned by Chief Auctioneer Steve Poulin and his wife Jeannine Poulin, who learned the business from her father, Arthur Julia. The auction house holds about eight auctions annually and bidders can participate in these live auctions in person, by absentee bid, or online; in 2014 they offered eight auctions online on Invaluable.com for rare books, antique firearms, militaria, and more.
Poulin Antiques & Auctions is perhaps best known for its large-scale firearms and sales that feature unique weaponry and militaria. These sales are a great opportunity for avid collectors to bid on everything from Remington firearms to Civil War swords to European arms and armor. Firearms accessories, such as leather goods and powder horns, also frequently hit the auction block.
As its name suggests, Poulin Antiques & Auctions is one part antique store and one part full-service auction house and appraisal service. Sellers have the option to either sell their valuables outright or to consign them for auction. While the auction house has expertise with a wide variety of antiques, firearms is a significant specialty. The Poulin Auction staff includes two firearms consultants, Neil Whitcomb and Dave Sanders. Other areas of expertise include coins, books, dolls and toys, jewelry, Oriental rugs and other items commonly found at estates.
Various members of the Poulin and Julia families work on staff at Poulin Antiques & Auctions. Those include Nicholas Poulin, who works as a photographer, sales coordinator and assistant auctioneer; and Jackie Julia, who works as a cataloguer and assistant auction bookkeeper for the auction house.
Poulin Antiques & Auctions periodically issues press releases detailing their successful sales and publishes them on their website. These press releases are a great place to learn about notable collections and lots that pass through the auction house.hide
