In full: “To Whom it may concern: My career as an astronaut was the result of having at the right place, the U. S. Geological Survey Branch of Astrogeology in Flagstaff AZ, at the right time, a new PhD geologist with no other ties, when NASA asked for volunteers for the scientists astronaut program. I thought about 10 seconds and volunteered./ Sincerely/ Jack Schmitt.” Schmitt’s personal letterhead. Schmitt walked on the Moon during Apollo XVII (1972). ++ The 10 signed photographs are: ++ Jack Schmitt. ++ 3 signed by Stuart A. Roosa (Apollo XIV). ++ Edgar MItchell (Apollo XIV, 1971). ++ “To [collector’s name] My Best Wishes/ Jim Irwin.” 8th to walk on Moon (Apollo XV, 1972). ++ Al Worden. Al Worden U.S.A.F May 22. 1970.” Worden was on Apollo XV (1971). ++ “To Leo/ Best Wishes/ Frank Borman.” Gemini VII (1965), Apollo VIII (1968). ++ Very rare signed photo: “To.../ Bill Anders.” William Anders was on Apollo VIII, during which Anders, Lovell, and Frank Borman became the first 3 humans to orbit the Moon. ++ John Young. Gemini III (1965), Gemini X (1966), Apollo X (1969), Apollo XVI (1972), STS-1 (1981); and STS-9.
