Signed card. 5 x 3 ¼ in., Jackson was the Supreme Court Justice from 1941-1954, Attorney General 1940-41, and had been Solicitor General 1938-1940. The phrases “Best wishes from” and “Attorney General” are typed on the card. Adhesive to verso (probably from previous placement in a scrapbook), otherwise near fine. ++ TLS by Harold Ickes to Richard Harkness (of United Press), transmitting a book on the Public Works Administration (not present). Letterhead of the Federal Emergency Administrator of Public Works. Head of the Public Works Administration [PWA]. 4to. Ickes was Secretary of the Interior throughout Roosevelt’s Presidency. ++ 10 other cards signed by members of Franklin Roosevelt’s cabinet: 1 by Harold Ickes (PWA/ Interior Secretary); Geo. H. Dern (Secretary of War 1934-36); Harry H. Woodring (Secretary of War 1936-40); Frank Knox (Alf Landon's 1936 VP running mate and Secretary of the Navy 1940-44); Francis C. Perkins (first female Cabinet Member as Secy. of Labor); Claude R. Wickard (Secy. of Agriculture 1940-45); Henry Morgenthau (Secy. of the Treasury 1934-45); Daniel C. Roper (Secretary of Commerce 1933-38); Homer Cummings (Attorney General 1933-39); Charles Edison (son of inventor Thomas Edison, Secretary of the Navy Jan.-June 1940, Governor of New Jersey 1941-44). ++ Cards about 3 x 5 in. or smaller.
