Russia, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. Gorgeous traveling icon, also sometimes called a chest icon, in cast bronze now with deep green patina. Icon features St. John Theologian in Science. He is shown seated at a desk, left hand to his chin as in deep thought, bird to his left holding censor and with halo around its head. Behind John are three plaques and above is the image of Christ. Small suspension loop in upper flange. Very finely detailed and a wonderful and rare example! Size: 2.375" W x 4" H (6 cm x 10.2 cm)
