Ornate 1821 Dated "James Monroe" Signed Land Grant
JAMES MONROE (1758-1831). 5th President of the United States. During the War of 1812, Monroe held the critical roles of both Secretary of State and the Secretary of War under President James Madison.
April 23, 1821-Dated, Partially-Printed Document Signed, "James Monroe," as President and Countersigned by Josiah Meigs, 1 page, about 13" x 9.5", on Vellum, Very Fine. Being a Land Grant to "Mary Sickles, Sister of the other heirs at law of Henry Sickles, Dec'd." This special Military Land Grant Document has the ornate vignette design at upper right, grants Sickles 160 Acres of land in the Territory of Arkansas. Usual folds with some slight splits at the outer edges. Original official Wax and Paper Seal in lower left is fully intact as well, some typical light tone. Overall in nice condition for display, with James Monroe's 3.5" long signature being still clear and dark.
