1832 George Washington's Birth Centennial Silk Ribbon
1832-Dated, George Washington Centennial Anniversary of his Birth Silk Ribbon, Engraved by "TILLER, SC.", Framed, Choice Extremely Fine.
An extremely rare and impressive original 1832 dated Silk Ribbon commemorating the Centennial of George Washington's birth. Measures 2.75" x 8.5" by sight, in modern wood frame 4.25" x 10". Not examined outside of frame. The white Silk Ribbon appears very fine condition with only some light age toning and minor creases. The black printing is sharp, crisp and dark. The top of this ribbon reads, "Centennial Anniversary of the Birth Day of Washington." A central vignette image features a Bust of Washington upon a pedestal with two mourners, one being a Native American Indian the other a Tobacconist Businessman standing on either side. Inscription on the pedestal reads: "The Father of his Country Born Feb. 22nd, 1732. Died Dec. 14th, 1799." Below the image is inscribed: "The Tobacconists of Philadelphia. 1832." An outstanding, beautiful example for display and the very first of this great design type we have offered.
