Description: 1861-87 Large Hermes Heads, the very fine collection with 1861 Paris printing set of seven U with fine and scarce 10L with large figures, thereafter with specialised study of the issue with 1L unused (possibly of Proof status) & U (5), 2L unused (5) & U (7), 5L unused & U (5), 20L U (7), 40L U (7), 80L U (8) & 10L (2), 1862 1st Athens Provisional printing with 2L U (3), 5L unused & U (5), 10L U (3), 20L U (5, one signed Holcombe), 40L U (3) a few with yellow 'wash', 1st Athens 'Fine' printing with 1L unused (3) & U (4), 2L U (4), 5L U (5), 10L U (4), 20L U (2), 40L U (2) & 80L (4), thereafter with 1862-67 2nd Athens printing with outstanding study (200+), both M & U, with 1L & 2L in M blocks, 20L deep blue on blued unused with o.g, vast range of shades, small plate flaws, cancellation interest on the issue with most stamps being choice examples with four margins. 1867-71 with further fine study incl. 20L in marginal strip of three U, fine pair used in Alexandria, Egypt with '97' numeral,, 1870 'German' printing with 1L M (10) & U, 20L U (14), 1870-71 printing with cleaned plates incl. 40L salmon with rare unused o.g example & U (11), 1872-75 transparent paper printing with 5L green U (30+), 10L U (11 incl. lavender paper example), 20L U (25), 40L with unused in pale olive or bistre on bluish (8) and U (17), 40L mauve on blued U (20+), 1875-80 issue with 5L & 40L buff (7) M & extensive used study of all vals (100+), 1875 Paris & Athens 30L & 60L vals incl. Paris 60L green M (4) & U (6), 1881-87 later printings with blocks of 1L M (3) & U, 2L, 5L 10L in M blocks (2) and extensive U examples. A collection with enormous catalogue value with many superb examples noted, seldom encountered so fine, a wonderful lot.
