General Philip Henry Sheridan Signed Check & Framed
PHILIP HENRY SHERIDAN (1831-1888), Civil War Union General, led the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac in the East. In 1865, his cavalry pursued Gen. Robert E. Lee and was instrumental in forcing his surrender at Appomattox, fought in the Indian Wars, appointed General-in-Chief U.S. Army, in 1888 promoted to General of the Army.
August 16, 1871-Dated, Partially-Printed Document Signed "P.H. Sheridan, U.S. Army," 7" x 2.75", Choice Extremely Fine. This check, drawn on Chicago Union National Bank, made out to Griggs & Co. in the amount of $20, has been engrossed and signed by Sheridan. Punch cancelled in center, with bank stamp lightly overlapping Sheridan's signature. Framed and professionally matted together with an engraved portrait print of Sheridan, 6.25" x 9" (by sight), in modern frame measuring to 11" x 18.25". A wonderful display piece of this important Union Army Civil War hero.
