Description: 18TH CENTURY SILVER TANKARD RUSSIAN LEADERS - Moscow 1740s - A large, lidded Russian silver tankard with repousse designs around the exterior of the piece. The body of the piece depicts three Russian leaders - most likely portraits of the first Grand Princes of Moscow. On the lid of the tankard, there is a scene of a small child holding a sunflower in a forest. On the base of the tankard there are three stamps that are legible: A heart with Cyrillic initials "BH" stamp, a block with Cyrillic initials "AK" mark, and a city hallmark of Moscow with the date "174_" below. The lid of the piece and the handle are both stamped with the same maker''s marks. The interior is gold washed and exterior is parcel-gilt. Hinge is slightly loose and a 3 digit numeral is incised on the bottom. Measures 6.75" H x 4.5" Diameter and the handle extending 2" outward. Weight approximation: 650 grams (1.4 pounds)
