Description: 1919 Avions Voisin Type C1
No reserve

- Interesting provenance
- Very nice original condition
- First step of the Automobile Voisin production
- Sans réserve

Gabriel Voisin began to produce automobiles in 1919 in Issy-les-Moulineaux, near to Paris, relying on the success of his military aircraft production during WWI. The automobile on offer is one of his very first models the C1, built from 1919 until 1924, in over 1200 units. The C1 was equipped with a 4 cylinder, 3969 cc valveless engine, producing 78 HP. Automobiles Voisin were designed for those who appreciated refinement and prestige. Gabriel Voisin''s automobiles were in much demand by the most discerning customers such as the royal court of Yugoslavia and the French Republic!
The example in the sale is believed to have been first delivered to the Sultan of Morocco in 1919, shortly after which it supposedly was sent back to France to have its original ''torpedo'' body replaced by a ''coupé chauffeur'' body. During WWII the C1 was transformed to be used as a service vehicle, signs of which remain today such as the heavy duty rear springs made to carry heavy loads. After the war the car remained in storage for over 60 years in Tangiers until it was discovered by its current owner. This C1 is in a remarkably original state, composed of virtually all its original and authentic parts and equipment. Although it no longer retains its original body, it would be the perfect candidate to receive a torpedo rebody at a quite reasonable cost to become a welcome participant in many classic automobile events.
