Description: 1954 Bentley R-Type Coupe Registration no. RTU 280 Chassis no. B77ZX Engine no. B38Z "A special fastback two-seater fixed head coupe was built to the special order of the late R (Bob) Gooda, and at one time was jointly owned with Brian Dumps, who raced the car at BDC Silverstone in 1967. "The bodywork was built by Robert Peel in 1966, with the radiator set 4" lower than normal, the lightweight car had an overall length of 15' 4" and weighed only 30.5cwt. An automatic gearbox was used."-Ray Roberts, Bentley Specials and Special Bentleys. Roberts records the present owner-at time of writing-as one Jan Schlabavaske, of Wisconsin, USA, going on to note that in April 1990 the car returned to the UK and was offered for sale by Straight Eight Ltd, of Goldhawk Road, London. The private vendor advises us that that 'RTU 280' has been restored and that it is in generally good mechanical condition. The vehicle is offered with sundry invoices and Swansea V5 registration document. It is hoped that a more detailed specification and history, particularly regarding recent ownership and servicing/maintenance, will be available for inspection at time of sale. Estimate:
