Lot 123: 1972 Elvis Presley Las Vegas "Summer Festival" Promotional Sign
October 29, 2016
Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
From August 4 through September 4, 1972, Elvis performed his "Summer Festival" shows at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. The Colonel was never one to shy away from advertising the special events he would create to market his star, and the Elvis Summer Festival received the full force of the Colonel's promotional expertise. An original example of this is the offered colorful cardboard printed banner that would have been used to promote Elvis and the Summer Festival show series as well as the records and tapes available on RCA. The banner is printed in a letterpress process on heavy cardboard stock, common for the time when smaller numbers of promotional pieces are being created, making this a rare example on which nothing was missed, including two large images of the King on this bold, bright red, white and blue banner. The banner measures 9 by 28 inches (22.86 x 71.12 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The cardboard banner is in overall excellent condition overall with slight foxing on the right edge, some residue near the left edge, minor paper loss near the right corner and some paper loss on the reverse near the top edge.
