Description: Large gilt bronze figure of Vajrabhairava with consort. Bull face with tiered crown and 18 arms radiating about him each holding a different implement. His primary arms grasping his consort, and holding the curved knife and skull cup; clad in a pendant belt of bones, and garlands of severed head. His wrathful faces surmounted by his hair rising into flames and secured by crowns of skulls and masks. He has 18 legs and rests on a gilt bronze clad wood lotus base. She is also holding a curved knife and skull cup, and wearing a pendant belt set with turquoise stones; her flowing hair pulled into a topknot and secured with a tiara of skulls. Statue is enhanced with red and white painted details and set with turquoise gems. Movable head. Bequest from John Bass to the Bass Museum of Art collection. Good condition with wear to gilt surface. Missing some gems, bends to instruments and losses to painted details and base elements. Appears to be missing second set of arms. Head reattached with screws. Measures 21" x 12 1/2" x 7".
