Description: Bidders will note that lot(s) with very low Staring Bids, i. e. $1-$5, should in no way see the Starting Bid of $1-$5 as the Book Barn’s judgment on the value of the item(s) contained in the lot(s). We have been in the Used/OP book business for 30+ years & have a LOT of inventory, with more piling up weekly. (Sometimes it seems to us that books breed at night, so there are always more of them over time!) There is NO reserve on these lots. These low Starting Bid lot(s) are meant to lower our inventory by providing bidders the opportunity to buy material at a low prices—we call it the "Eek" price; as in "Eek! That’s all it sold for?" Our lack of storage is your opportunity to buy material at a low price. Two Vintage pieces of 1964 Presidential Campaign Literature. 1) Campaign paper produced by "Lehigh Valley (PA) Citizens For Goldwater-Miller Committee." Ronald Reagan then a rising star in conservative politics. The 1964 campaign was the Republican ticket of Barry Goldwater & William Miller against Democrats LBJ & Hubert H. Humphrey. Ronald Reagan then a rising star in conservative politics.gave a well-received televised speech supporting Goldwater; it was so popular that Goldwater's advisors had it played on local television stations around the nation & reproduced in campaign literature. Many historians consider this speech—"A Time for Choosing"—to mark the beginning of Reagan's transformation from an actor to a political leader. This campaign flyer contains an address by Reagan also called "A Time For Choosing" in which he lays out Goldwater's beliefs & contrasts them with LBJ for swaying the voters in the coming election. It didn't work, Goldwater lost in a landslide, but Reagan went on the be elected Governor of CA & twice President. An interesting look at the thinking of the rising conservative star. Condition: Good with expected handling wear; paper slightly age toning but not brittle. Ends abruptly on the bottom of page 10 in mid-sentence. Not known if this was intended, there is no tear at the staple to indicated that their were further pages attached. 2) Three-fold campaign brochure for Barry Goldwater's Vice Presidential running mate William Miller, giving biographical details of his life, family & background. Miller 15 minutes of fame came as Goldwater's unsuccessful running mate. He was highly regarded in Republican conservative circles, but like Goldwater had an acid tongue & spoke his mind without regard for possible political ramifications. In fact Goldwater was reputed to have told confidants that he choose Miller because, "he drives Lyndon nits." Condition: Very Good. William E.(dward) Miller, (1914-1983) Representative from New York, graduated from Notre Dame University, & from Albany Law School of Union University; was admitted to the bar in 1938; assistant prosecutor of Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg, Germany, in 1945 and 1946; elected to the HR as a Republican 1951-65; an unsuccessful Republican candidate in 1964 to be Vice President of the United States.
