Description: [Darktown/Currier & Ives] 2 "Darktown" color lithographs, signed in print "Murphy" on lower right side, published by Currier & Ives at 115 Nassau St., NY, dated 1884. The Darktown series was printed during the post-Civil War period of 1879-1890 and consisted of about 75 different prints portraying Black Americans as cartoonish characters engaged in stereotypical activities and games. ++ "The Darktown Glide: Aint dis jes lubly!" 13 ½ x 17 ¾ in., slight toning to edges under mat, slight foxing esp. to lower right side. Framed, acid-free matte, COA. ++ "The Darktown Slide: Golly! am dere an Erfquake?" 13 ½ x 17 ¾ in., slight toning to edges under mat, slight foxing. Framed, acid-free matte, COA.
