More About this Item

Liechtenstein title EU customs cleared Chassis n° ZFFZR52J000123690 Engine n°61313 - A radical, yet easy to handle Ferrari - Very exclusive model - Belts recently replaced - Just 6 980 km from new - Coming from an important collection from the French Riviera In 1996, the launch of the 550 Maranello was significant for Ferrari. The new model marked a return to its roots, as its front-engined configuration had not been seen since the Daytona. The elegant body, designed by Pininfarina, shared some of the stylistic features already seen on the 456. The front section was rather more aggressive in appearance, however, and the bonnet concealed a 5.5-litre V12 engine producing 485 bhp. This was mated to a transaxle positioned at the back, to improve the weight distribution. In 2000, four years after the 550 Maranello first appeared, Ferrari President, Luca de Montezemolo, chose the Mondial de l''Auto in Paris to launch his pride and joy, the 550 Barchetta. Despite the similarity in styling to the 550 Maranello, the Barchetta was not simply a cabriolet version, but was a more extreme one which claims its personality of a sport car. The overall structure was similar to the coupé, but with important differences. The windscreen was lowered by 10cm and reinforcements added to compensate for the absence of a roof. There were bucket seats and two prominent roll-hoops, fitted as standard and leather-clad. There was no complicated roof mechanism, simply a canvas cover that could be put up quickly if it rained. The 550 Barchetta was tested extensively in the wind tunnel to ensure it was no less aerodynamically efficient than the coupé. This was demonstrated perfectly by its top speed of 300 km/h, which earned the car the title of fastest cabriolet in the world. It could travel from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The finish had numerous details unique to this model, and just 448 examples were produced. Presented in the sublime combination of " Rosso Fiorano " with black and beige leather interior, this car has covered just 6 980 km from new, which are documented. The car only had three owners since new. The current owner''s personal mechanic, looked after the car and the Ferrari Cannes dealership, has recently carried out a full service of the car, which has included replacing the timing belt, fluids and filters. It comes with its original manuals, a spare set of keys and the two splendid helmets decorated with the prancing horse delivered with the car. In a condition that can only be described as sublime, this extraordinary barchetta exudes a heady mix of elegance and aggression, with a hint of exclusivity that adds to its charm. Please note that this car is EU customs cleared.
