Description: [Christmas/White House Prints] 28 items. Provenance: Rex Scouten Collection of White House Americana. Scouten served 10 Presidents from Truman to Clinton, including time as a Secret Service agent, Chief Usher of the White House, and White House Curator. ++ 13 White House Christmas gift prints (for 1961, 1974, 1985, 1986, 1988-1989, 1991, 1993-1996, 2002, and 2008). Mostly folio, a few 4to. Mostly in original folder, many in original envelope. Mostly very good to near fine, some more worn. 1974’s Christmas print was issued with the verso of the reproduced painting loosely tipped to the inside of the folder, and has come loose as a result. 1961’s Christmas print as uneven trimming and is generally worn. Seeley pp86, 132, 168-196. ++ 7 White House Christmas cards: 1972, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1991, and 1993. Mostly near fine. 3 in orig envelope. Seeley pp127, 165, 168-191. ++ Enclosure card that was sent with the Christmas print in 1982 (not to be confused with the White House Christmas print for that year). Seeley p182. ++ Christmas card sent by the Carter Presidential Library. ++ Typed letter to Scouten. Dec. 17, 1980. The “Jimmy” might be be by his secretary Susan Clough. ++ 2 invitations to White House events during the Christmas season. ++ Christmas card sent to Scouten by Peggy and Everett Raymond Kinstler. Everett Raymond Kinstler was the painter who did Ronald Reagan’s official portrait. ++ Official White House photograph of 3 Nixon family members in front of the Christmas tree. 4to, color.
