Description: Fitzgerald, F. Scott. 3 Titles. ++ FLAPPERS AND PHILOSOPHERS. NY: Charles Scribners Sons, 1920. 1st edition, 1st printing (Scribners seal on c-page, half titles verso is blank, and panoply on p152, line 23). Bruccoli A.6. 8vo. Dark green cloth with front cover title in blind. The cloth can have at least 2 textures (priority unknown): Here the grain of the cloth runs both vertical and horizontal (as opposed to vertical only). Gilt lettering on spine is dulled but faintly visible. Very good, bookplate and incomplete pencil erasure on fep. Lacking dj. ++ THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE DAMNED. 1922. 1st edition, 2nd printing, state 1: Same title and c-page as a 1st printing except that a Scribners seal has been added. No known changes to main portion of text. Last leaf [pp451-452] advertises the 12th printing of This Side of Paradise and 5th printing of Flappers and Philosophers. Half titles verso lists Flappers and Philosophers, The Beautiful and the Damned, and This Side of Paradise. Pp. 67-70 are not cancelled. The 2nd printing was produced later during the same month as the 1st printing (Mar. 1922). Bruccoli A8.I.b1. Green cloth (matching Flappers and Philosophers). Front cover lettered in blind. Gilt lettering on spine dulled. Very good, 1st-2nd gatherings roughly opened at outer edge, lacking dj. ++ THIS SIDE OF PARADISE. Scribners, 1920. 1st edition, 7th printing according to the c-page (...Reprinted August 1920 with a Scribners seal), but the text contains many typographical characteristics Bruccoli associates with earlier printings. Bruccoli analyzes 30 typographical errors in a 1st, 4th, and 7th printing. This one has over 25 of Bruccolis typographical features for a 4th printing, but has 1 error in common with the 1st printing and 3 typographical corrections made before the 7th printings. Page 119, line 4: Booth is italicized (as in a 1st printing). 7th printing characteristics: C-page is ...Reprinted August 1920. Page 18, line 26: Rineheart with an a (consistent with a 7th printing, but not a 4th printing). Page 240, italicized portion: langueur with e (consistent with a 7th, not a 4th printing). P. 242, line 26: Cellini spelled correctly (as in a 7th but not a 4th printing). Verso of half title advertises Flappers and Philosophers [published Sep. 10, 1920]. The 1st printing was on Mar. 26, 1920, the 4th printing in April 1920, and the 7th printing in August 1920. Bruccoli A.5.I.a. Bdg matches Flappers and The Beautiful and the Damned. VG, ink ownership.
