Description: [Carter, Rosalynn] 3 Signed Items. Provenance: Rex Scouten Collection of White House Americana. Scouten served 10 Presidents from Truman to Clinton, including time as a Secret Service agent, Chief Usher of the White House, and White House Curator. ++ ALS by Rosalynn Carter. “Dear Rex, We send our best wishes as you leave the White House…” In reality, Scouten was only leaving his position as Chief Usher. He stayed on as White House Curator (1986-97). Signed “Sincerely, Rosalynn Carter/ Dec. 26, 1985.” The “Jimmy” might be an autopen. [2] single-sided leaves. With orig envelope sent to Scouten’s home address. Near fine. ++ Rosalynn Carter TLS, thanking Scouten for taking 5th graders on a tour of the White House. Mar. 30, 1994. At that point in his career, Scouten was White House Curator. White House Mail Room stamp on original envelope. ++ Typed note by Scouten about the Monjian Project (a photographic study of the White House). Rosalynn Carter’s handwritten reply in lower margin: “O.K. but I would like to be with photographer when photos are taken on 2nd floor. -R.” 12mo. Tear and sharp crease to right margin. Other portions have slight creasing from ordinary handling.
