Description: 1st and 2nd items: Pair of Victorian Pre-Raphaelite style watercolor portraits of women in Renaissance and Classical style dress, each signed EP or EL, narrow giltwood frames with oval vignettes. 8" H x 6" W. Sight - 13 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W. matted and framed. 3rd and 4th item: Pair of Victorian bust length watercolor portraits of a man and woman, each signed in pencil HOPPNER; note that one painting has additional name beginning with M partially visible under the mat. Attributed to Henry Hoppner Meyer (England/New York 1783-1847) or his son, Bernard Francis Hoppner Meyer (American, 1811-1888), both prominent artists specializing in portraits of prominent Americans. Giltwood molded frames with shell/cartouche molded corner ornaments. Sight - 8" H x 5 3/4" W. Framed - 15" H x 13" W. Provenance: a Middle Tennessee estate. Condition Report: 1st and 2nd items: crack to one corner of glass, other has crease line across bottom of image; both with light scattered foxing. 3rd and 4th items: light toning to paper including shadow line from previous matting. Frames are old but possibly not original; have been repainted and have several large areas of losses to moldings.
