Description: [Reagan, Nancy] About 40 Items (4 signed by Nancy Reagan). Provenance: Rex Scouten Collection of White House Americana. Scouten served 10 Presidents from Truman to Clinton, including time as a Secret Service agent, Chief Usher of the White House, and White House Curator. Mostly near fine, some more worn. ++ ALS. “Dear Rex- Those are the magazine covers I mentioned - great and don’t look a thing like Shickley’s portrait! I hope this works out- Just don’t lose them- Miss you- Fondly/ Nancy Reagan.” Stationery with “NRD” initials in red at top. Orig envelope addressed in Nancy Reagan’s hand (“Rex Scouten/ White House/ Curator’s office.”). She crossed out the Pacific Palisades return address on the back of the envelope and put in a new address. ++ TNS by Rex Scouten to Nancy Reagan with her handwritten reply: “Not interested, Rex- as you know the portraits are taken care of-” Toning, paper clip mark. ++ 2 other TNSs by Scouten to Nancy Reagan on White House letterhead with Nancy Reagan’s handwritten response in blank area at bottom. Both Nov. 29, 1988. The 3 handwritten replies are unsigned. ++ 1 other TNS by Scouten on White House letterhead, Oct. 21, 1982. Handwriting in blank area might be by another person. ++ Pair of cufflinks. On blue rim: “Seal of the President of the United States.” ++ 1 cufflink. Underside: “14K EMB.” Engraved on underside: “To Rex Scouten/ From R.R. and N.R. 1985.” ++ Invitation to a White House event Oct. 6, 1988. ++ Invitation to a reception at the Union League Club in New York, Mar. 20, 1990. ++ The Schedule of President Ronald Reagan Monday, January 21, 1985. Typewritten on printed form. ++ Leather folder. On outside is a gilt Presidential seal and “Christmas, 1982.” Inside, on left pocket: “To: R. S./From: R. R. & N. R.” ++ 6 pens. 3 are Nancy Reagan pens manufactured by Parker, facsimile signature, each in cream colored velvet case. Each case also has a Parker Fine Point FiberTip. ++ 1 wrapped gift box. Same size as the cases for the pens. ++ [PAST MENUS.] Consists of typed menus from various White House events, mostly 1977 to 1985. Some have handwritten marks by White House staff. Title from handwritten sticky label on side of small binder. ++ B/w photograph of an earlier photograph that has been signed by Ronald Reagan and 2 others, probably during the acting portion of his career. ++ The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Dedication Ceremony - November 4, 1991. (Flyer with 8 small color photographs tipped or taped to its leaves. Most photos show Scouten, several with Nancy Reagan.) ++ About 20 press photos. Mostly color. Reagan, Clinton, other Presidents and First Ladies. 5.6 Lb.
