Antique set is bound in full leather, with raised bands and stamped gilt lettering to spines. Volumes have been rebacked. Books show moderate external wear, with minor loss of material visible at outside corners and mild rubbing to covers. Bindings are sound. Volumes have marbled endpapers. Handwritten inscriptions by previous owner John James Brayfield (dated 1790, 1800 and 1819) appear on blank preliminary page in first volume. Pages display occasional light foxing. Books are lavishly illustrated with full-page plates. First volume has intact fold-out chart at front of volume. Well-preserved fold-out plate with cutaway illustration of sailing ship.
