Description: [Casselli, Henry] Donelson Hoopes. HENRY CASSELLI: MASTER OF THE AMERICAN WATERCOLOR. New Orleans Museum of Art, 2000. Sq. 4to. Cloth; near fine in very good dj with typical curling to dj’s edges. Signed and inscribed by the artist on half title (both with an ordinary “Henry” signature and with the stylized signature he used on his art). Placed in loose: ++ TLS to Scouten (placed inside the book), with a PS in Henry Casselli’s hand. “PS- the exhibition has been extended and will also be seen at The Arkansas Art Center, The Butler Institute of American Art, and the Morris Museum of Art in beautiful Augusta, Georgia.” ++ TLS (unrelated to the book). Addressed to Scouten, it reads in part “...It has been my sincere belief, that my time with President Reagan, was everything it was, because of your involvement, and that the painting would not be what it is, without you.” Aug. 30, 1989, Casselli’s personal letterhead. Near fine. Signed “Henry.” ++ 3 color photographs (not sent with the book). 1 photo shows Henry Casselli’s portrait of Reagan at the National Portrait Gallery. 1 shows Reagan standing next to the portrait. The other is of Reagan standing next to a small statue. Ink notation on versos. Photo of Reagan next to a statue has ink marks from fingers. ++ Provenance: Rex Scouten Collection of White House Americana. Scouten served 10 Presidents from Truman to Clinton, including time as a Secret Service agent, Chief Usher of the White House, and White House Curator.
