Description:
Five 1966, One 1967 Special Mint Set
Denomination Half-Dollar - Penny

Description The plastic casing surrounds the five coins, one each of the denominations between half-dollar and penny. The sets are placed within a blue background with silver lettering above them proclaiming "United States Special Mint Set," with the American Eagle seal following "United States, also in silver. To the bottom right is the inscription "Packaged By U.S. Mint."
Condition Though the coins themselves are near mint, the cases holding the coins have a scratched a marred surface. The coins themselves still gleam, but occasionally show a very small amount of tarnish.Meta: CoinsMeta: Proof Set
History Because of a coin shortage during the mid-1960s, the U.S. Mint did not issue Proof Sets from 1965-1967. Instead, "Special Mint Sets" featuring extra high-quality uncirculated coins were produced.
