Description: [White House Renovation] 10 Items. Provenance: Rex Scouten Collection of White House Americana. Scouten served 10 Presidents from Truman to Clinton, including time as a Secret Service agent, Chief Usher of the White House, and White House Curator. ++ Over 125 color photographic negatives showing rooms of the White House. ++ Fragment of cork that was part of the floor installed in the office in 1934, removed in 1969. 2 x 1 1/8 in. within 3 x 3 1/2 x 1 inch lucite block, placed loose in larger 6 3/4 x 5 1/2 x 1 3/8 inch clamshell case. ++ The President’s House, in Washington: Lately taken & destroyed by the British Army. [Modern steel engraving plate made from a copper engraving plate.] Lower margin: “Published Novr. 1st 1184, by G. & S. Robinson…” 6 x 8 in. at outer edge of plate. ++ Folder of printed and stapled descriptions of rooms of the White House. Office of the Curator credited at upper right, mostly 1994-1997. ++ JOURNAL OF THE RENOVATION OF THE WHITE HOUSE. (Compiled by Stanley W. McClure, Associate Historian, National Capital Parks, Dept. of Interior). Entries mostly 1951-1952, at least one 1950. Typed, softcover, partly secured with a fastener in inner margin. Those entries which are not secured by the fastener have some creasing. Oblong 12mo. ++ Folder of printed flyers/brochures, printouts, and photocopies related to the renovation of the White House, largely 200th Anniversary-related.++ 2 binders of printed descriptions of rooms of the White House, timelines, information on the changes made by various Presidents, etc. Many leaves are headed “Office of the Curator” and dated 1994-1996. ++ THE CONNOISSEUR. 1 issue (May 1976). 4to.
