Lot 91: 91. Oval Oaks No. 97 Tin Washboard
December 3, 2016
Graham, NC, USALive Auction
Description: A 20C "green machine," this Oval Oaks No. 97 board is made of wood and galvanized tin. Washboards were created for laundry, but with convenience of automated washing machines, they soon became far too laborious to use, often becoming used as a musical instrument in a bluegrass or hillbilly band. Some experts, today contend that a washboard is superior to modern day laundry machines because it actually produces a cleaner product, albeit the energy of the user must be accessed. It certainly is an electric energy and water saver. Many military folks still carry one for when no laundry facilities are present. Dimensions 12.5"w x 24"h.
