A beautiful pair of flintlock pistols of noble property, dating: 18th Century
provenance: Southern Germany
Smooth, round, blued (restored), 14 mm cal. barrels, with chiselled base and rib, signed "B. MAY A MANHEIM" in silver among pandur and curls, brass foresight; slightly sculpted full stocks with beautiful, silver mounts, embossed with effigy of soldiers, busts, trophies and floral motifs. Tipped wooden ramrods with iron, brass and silver mounts. At the butt-plates the crowned monogram "CT" (Carl Theodor?).B. May is documented in Mannheim from 1740 to 1790. The monogram could be attributable Charles Theodore, Prince-Elector of Bavaria.
