A Biedermeier parcel-ebonized birch armchair
First quarter 19th century
After the model by Josef Danhauser, the square back with ebonized feather splats, issuing downward scrolling arms above a square upholstered seat on tapering square legs.
H: 35 1/2, W: 20, D: 20 in.
Handsome decorative appearance but with condition issues. Repairs to both arms where arms meet spindles. Areas of veneer loss throughout and two large areas of replaced veneer at backrest and right front leg. Additional repair to the right edge of the backrest, and splitting of the substrate at the rear of the backrest. Typical wear to legs and feet for age.
